Why Should You Get a Cockapoo?

by admin

Dogs make wonderful gamily pets as well as being great company for those who live alone. The vast numbers of different breeds mean that you can choose a dog of a size and temperament that suits you and your lifestyle. Some dogs, for example, need more exercise than others. Some are harder to train than others, and there are differences in personality and other aspects of a breed.

A popular family pet is the cockapoo which is a medium-sized cross between the cocker spaniel and the poodle. As inherits the personality traits of each of those breeds, what you get is a fun, intelligent, and enjoyable animal, yet one that is not necessarily right for everyone. Let’s look at why a cockapoo may or may not be for you.

The Cockapoo Needs Plenty Exercise

As a family pet the cockapoo is ideal, yet there are some aspects to the breed that you need to know about before you settle on this charming and attractive dog as your choice. First, the cockapoo is an energetic animal. Being intelligent, it needs to be kept engaged with fun games and challenges. That intelligence makes it a dog that is easy to train, yet one that if not given the attention it asks for, can become troublesome. If you live alone and go out to work all day, this is not the breed for you as it does not like to be left alone for long periods.

However, should you be a family in which someone is in the house for most of the day, there are many reasons why the cockapoo could be an ideal choice. It loves to play, is great with children, and is a loyal animal. You will need a garden of some size and be willing to spend time with your cockapoo both in the home and going out for a walk. But that is part of what owning a dog is all about.

So, before we go on, a quick summary of the above: this is a wonderfully friendly and energetic dog that you need to be ready to devote plenty of time to.

As an intelligent breed the cockapoo becomes easily bored. That’s why it is not the dog for a home that is often empty for several hours. There are many stories of cockapoos destroying furniture, yet this is simply a sign that the dog is bored and looking for something to do. A well-trained, attended, and loved cockapoo will not resort to such action.

One major point we need to mention is that the cockapoo likes to bark and can be very loud! It will bark to get your attention, when people are around your premises, and basically when it wants something. This can be annoying – especially to close neighbours – so if you live in an apartment, it is not the dog for you.

Also, thanks to its long and beautiful coat the cockapoo needs plenty of grooming, but again that’s part of the enjoyment of owning one of these charming and engaging dogs.

Is the Cockapoo the Dog for You?

The cockapoo is a great of dog if you have plenty of time to devote to training, exercising, playing, and taking care of the animal. It is sensitive and highly likely to suffer from separation anxiety, which is not unusual in intelligent and loyal breeds such as this. If you are willing and able to put in the work in the early days, the cockapoo is among the best breeds as a family pet or a loving and loyal companion.
